Annetra Piper currently works as the Manager of Grants Development and Management Department in the Houston Independent School District. She has assisted in fundraising events and has written numerous federal, state, and local grants that have brought in funds in excess of several hundred million dollars. She has also served as the director and co-director of several federally funded programs such as – The Smaller Learning Community Grant Program, the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) Grant Program, and the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant Program. Annetra also reviews grants at the federal, state, and local level in order to gauge the temperature of the country and get a “leg up” on the grant competition. Annetra has been in the educational arena for more than 30 years.  She taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade history for 14 years and has served in an educational administrative capacity for the majority of her career. Additionally, Annetra provides grant writing and grant management classes and training through her company, A. Piper and Associates.

 

Mrs. Piper received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from the University of Houston and has a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Prairie View A & M University.  She also received a certification in Mid-Management from Prairie View.  Currently, Annetra Piper is in the Educational Administration and Human Resources doctoral program at Texas A & M University, where she is focused on Cultural Relevance and Proficiency, especially in regard to teaching African American youth. She is involved with and sits on several boards, many of them philanthropic in nature.

 

Annetra is also actively involved in her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – Houston Alumnae Chapter.  She is an active member of her church – New Light Christian Center Church, and serves as a Greeter, a Torch Bearer, and Minister in the Personal Ministry.  Annetra is President of her book club – Page Turners, Too, a book club that has been in operation since 2000.  She is the author of two novels of fiction – “When You Think of Me” and her most recent novel, “Living With No Regrets”.  She is a partner in the publishing firm – Abounding Favor Publishing Company, where she serves as Senior Vice President. Annetra is happily married to Adrian Piper and has three extraordinary children, Nicholas, Phillip, and Shannyn, and one granddaughter, Tori. 

 

 

Annetra’s mantra every day is that it is her desire to do whatever it takes to make the lives of children, parents, teachers, administrators, and community better.
